Istanbul Ataturk Airport is one of two international airports in Istanbul. It was first opened in 1924, was formely known as Yesilkoy International airport. 1980, it was renamed after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who was the first president of the modern Turkish republic. The other airport Sabiha Gökçen is an international airport which is much newer, yet the Istanbul Ataturk international airport remains the busier.
