Apollo Bay lies in the foothills of the Otway Ranges, on the Great Ocean Road between Anglesea and Cape Otway. It is the gateway to the Great Otway National Park with its magnificent waterfalls, forests and fern gullies. It is also the beginning of the Great Ocean Walk which stretches for 91 kms finishing near the 12 Apostles. Originally a whaling outpost the town soon attracted timber cutters. By 1855 there was a jetty on the site of today’s harbour to send timber to Geelong and belong. For most of the 19th century the main access to the town was by sea.

This very pretty town is host to a large fishing fleet and boasts many good restaurants, cafes and art galleries as well as a golf course and beach. The Old Cable Station museum is also an interesting place to visit, as the former centre of communications with Tasmania. All the attractions of the Great Ocean Road are easily accessible.
