The three arched bridge welcomes you as you approach from Hobart, next is the Foxhunters Return – originally a coaching station. There are many substantial and beautiful buildings to see in the town, including churches, manor houses and pubs.

It is the centre of wool production in Tasmania, based on the merino Saxon sheep. The first wool show was held in 1939, which it is believed, makes it the oldest continuing agricultural show in the British Commonwealth.
