Evandale is a historic town, situated only 20 km south of Launceston on the South Esk River, not far from Launceston airport. The town has an abundance of Georgian buildings including churches, manses, hotels and stores. There is a lot to see and do and a range of accommodation options. On Sunday there is a popular country market, often with many antiques and unusual collectibles. Each year there is a famous Penny Farthing race that attracts thousands of visitors from Tasmania and the other states.

Governor Macquarie suggested the town site and the first settlers arrived in 1816. They were evacuees from the Norfolk Island penal colony. The town’s wealth was built on agriculture including wool and lamb production, cattle and dairy, oats and wheat.
