Fitzgerald River National Park is a spectacular wilderness area in southern Western Australia about 180kms north east of Albany between Bremer Bay and Hopetoun. It covers 330,000 hectares of diverse landscapes including 100kms of protected beaches, extensive plains, mountain ranges and spongelite cliffs. The Park is well known for the Barrens, a range of coastal hills made from tilted and folded quartzites, which have been compressed, heated and tilted to spectacular effect.

These unusual landforms are home to an incredible number of plants, birds and animals – many of which are found nowhere else on the planet. There are 1800 documented species of plants in the park including 81 orchids – 70 of which are unique to the area. Fitzgerald River National Park has been designated as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit.
