Originally the destination of choice for those looking for an alternative lifestyle in the late 1960s, Kuranda is now a sophisticated and stylish mountain getaway. Visitors can access Kuranda on the historic Scenic Railway, by rental car or bus along the stunning Kuranda Range Road, or via the renowned Skyrail gondola cableway that passes over dense rainforest and offers views out over the ocean.
Visitors will love the Kuranda Markets, with their undeniable charm and exotically handcrafted goods showcasing the talents of local artisans. The markets also feature clothing, tropical cuisine and locally produced wines. There is a strong tie to the local Aboriginal Djabugay tribe and the land in Kuranda. Pay a visit to the Aboriginal Art Gallery at the markets. It showcases authentic Aboriginal art, didgeridoos and other artefacts. Or visit Rainforestation where you can learn more about Aboriginal culture and enjoy a wide range of activities such as riding an Army Duck in the rainforest. No visit to Kuranda would be complete without a trek through the Wet Tropics rainforest, boasting around 1200 species of fl owering plants and wonderful wildlife.
