Halfway between Brisbane and Cairns on the Queensland coast is the spectacular Mackay region. National Parks, beautiful beaches, lush rainforest, islands and historic towns are dotted through this relatively undiscovered region. A holiday to Mackay is a chance to escape the crowds and enjoy a diverse escape.
The Mackay Region is one of the emerging stars of the Queensland travel scene especially for travellers looking for an un-spoiled and friendly contrast to some of the more developed destinations along the Queensland coast. Some of the 'must-sees' of the Mackay Region include: the palm fringed central area of the city, Finch Hatton Gorge, the Pioneer Valley, and of course the magnificent Eungella National Park. There are many other highlights as well including an impressive Botanic Gardens, the brilliant scenery at Cape Hillsborough National Park, seaside towns like Sarina and Midge Point, as well as outback townships such as Clermont and Nebo and a great many sandy beaches. Of course the region is also a jumping off point to the Islands of Keswick and Brampton as well as Great Barrier Reef.

The has a similar climate to Hawaii with warm tropical days and balmy nights for much of the year and enjoys mild winters. The water temperature averages around 22 degrees Celsius so swimming is always on the agenda, but check where to swim in summer as marine stingers are found in this part of the world.
The Mackay Region has an atmosphere that is casual and relaxed, there is great food, a beautiful natural environment and of course the Barrier Reef is at it's doorstep. No wonder people are starting to notice!
