One of the largest mountains in Bogong National Park, Hotham is often referred to as 'The Giant'. Sir Ferdinand von Mueller was the first European to explore the region and gave the name Hotham to the great mountain after a Governor Hotham in 1854. Settlement came soon after when a number of women set up shanties to house miners travelling between Dargo Omeo and Ovens goldfields.
During the summer season take a bike up and cycle the Great Alpine Road which is the highest bitumen road in Australia. This track has stunning views.
