Mt Kosciusko was first climbed in 1840 by a polish explorer, Paul de Strzelecki who named the peak after a polish national hero ‘Kosciusko’ because he felt that it resembled his tomb. Today there are two ways to reach the top. The first is by road to Charlotte’s Pass and then an easy 8 kms walk will take you to the summit or you can walk for 6.5km from the top of the Crackerjack chairlift which goes from Thredbo. Either way the views are spectacular.
