Norton Summit is named after bullock driver, Robert Norton, who was the first settler to discover the location in the early 1800's. Norton Summit was also home to longest running state premier, Sir Thomas Playford. He was in parliament for 27 years. People from the summit knew Playford as a keen orchardist.
