The Great Otway National Park comprises 103000 hectares of ancient rainforests, cool temperate drier forests, inland slopes, heathland several spectacular waterfalls and some of the most rugged and inaccessible coastline in Victoria. It stretches for 60kms from Anglesea along the Great Ocean Road to west of Cape Otway. It has only recently come about with the amalgamation of the former Otway Ranges National Park, Angahook/Carlisle and Melba Gully State Parks with state forest and crown land in December 2005.

As well as bushwalking, camping, mountain biking, fishing and swimming in the creeks as well as the beaches, one of the oldest lighthouses in the region can be visited at Cape Otway. It was built in 1848 to guide ships through the narrow western entrance to Bass Strait. Dozens of ships were lost along this treacherous coastline. You can even stay in the former lighthouse keeper’s quarters.
