Penong is the first town you reach as you travel west from Ceduna. It's a good 'watering hole' before the long journey across the Nullarbor Plain. It offers a pub with beer garden, a couple of stores and a caravan park.

Just south of Penong, you'll find the highly acclaimed Cactus Beach, where surfers from all over Australia and overseas can be found year-round. Cactus has three perfect surfing breaks - Castles and Cactus both left handers and Caves, a powerful right-hand break.
Although the surrounding land is private property, the owner permits camping in a natural environment. Toilets and bore water showers are provided, and firewood is supplied nightly.
