Seymour is located in a valley at the base of the Tallarook Ranges on the banks of the Goulburn River. Gum trees and native fauna are the backdrop to the town of Seymour. The natural parks of the area allow visitors to see koalas in their natural habitat or wander the heritage listed Trawool valley.

There are many activities to enjoy that show off the charming qualities of Seymour. Wineries, rail and military memorablia, art and antiques and a range of historical buildings which show the township's past.
Before European settlement, the land was home to the Taungurung people. The Taungurung people stayed in the area for 40 years after the land was discovered by European settlers. The mail service between Melbourne and Sydney was established in 1838. In 1939 it was found that 16 km could be saved by using the the land known as the 'the new crossing place'. Today that land is the delightful country town of Seymour.
