Townsville Region Information

The northern city of Townsville sits at the centre of a beautiful and vibrant region that is rich in natural beauty. Rugged outback landscapes, verdant rainforests and magnificent coastlines surrounded by islands and reefs add up to an experience visitors will not soon forget. Magnetic Island sits just off the coastline and is near to the city, whilst to the west lies the outback and the Great Barrier Reef surrounds the coast.

Sugar cane and mango farming are among the main rural industries. Coastal towns and farming communities are dotted through the region and offer a taste of Australian life in the north.

The National Parks around Townsville are home to plenty of wildlife including rare butterflys, kangaroos, birds, platypus and trees that have stood for centuries. Many of these protected areas also have beautiful creeks, waterfalls and swimming spots.

There is also fascinating history around the region that stretches back thousands of years when Aboriginal tribes were the only ones to inhabit the lands to more recent european history of miners, pastoralists and war. Remnants of many of these bygone moments in history are still evident in the beautiful colonial buildings, old pubs, museums and exhibitis of gold mining equipment and cottages.

The opportunities for exploration in the Townsville Region invite you.
