The pinnacle of natural beauty in the Mornington region, Rye’s Peninsula Hot Springs are the ultimate relaxation destination where temperate mineral water flows from deep underground. The all-inclusive and highly praised site offers more than 20 varying bathing experiences – much like the thermal spa centres found across Europe and beyond – as well as an indulgent menu of spa treatments and dining/accommodation packages. The first natural hot springs and day spa centre in Victoria, this respite oasis places importance on tranquillity, but it’s still advised to get in early to save bumping elbows with fellow bathers.

The therapeutic benefits of bathing in the soothing mineral waters are many, including the power to improve circulation, treat arthritis, strengthen bones, reduce blood pressure, eliminate toxins and promote healthy skin – just to name a few! But beyond the ample advantages of chloride, boron, magnesium, potassium, sodium and other natural minerals found in the healing waters, the enjoyment is all in the relaxing feeling of soaking up the warmth and scenic surrounds.

Head to the hilltop pool to lap up the panoramic views before exploring the cave pool, sauna, hamam (Turkish Bath), bubble spa couch, cold plunge pool, massaging thermal showers, reflexology walk and countless other rejuvenating spaces. For a more private experience, visit the Spa Dreaming Centre for an array of treatments to sooth your body and mind, such as an Aboriginal-inspired Kodo massage, mud wrap or hot stone relaxation. After you’ve warmed up, cooled down and worked up an appetite, there are two cafes on site where bathrobes are totally acceptable attire for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

General etiquette is to shower off before leaping into serenity, but don’t rush to rinse off after your thermal bath – the benefits of the minerals can be absorbed for up to three hours after leaving the pool. As one of the most popular things to do in the Mornington Peninsula, the Hot Spring pools are known to fill up quick in the busy season but you can avoid missing out by booking ahead online. Saturdays and Sunday are peak pool time and cost a little extra - $AUD35 for adults as opposed to $AUD30 during weekdays – and children under the age of 16 are welcome before 10:00 if accompanied by an adult.
