Whitsunday Island is the largest of the 74 islands known as the Whitsunday Islands situated off the NE coast of Queensland. Although it is the largest at 19 x 13 klms, there is no accommodation on the island. Typically for the area, it is coral fringed with crystal clear water, white sands and idyllic, with Mount Whitsunday rising from a volcanic cliff.

There are several beautiful beaches where camping is permitted. However, Joes, Dugong and Sawmill Beaches are the only places with a water supply. Camping is booked through the Environmental Protection Agency.
