In Fiji the three main langauges spoken are Fijian, Hindu and English. The Fijian alphabet is very similiar to the english one. 'Bula' is hello and a general greeting in Fiji. English is spoken very well throughout Fiji and is commonly used.
The locals on the main islands are very fluent in English and will converse with tourists in this language. People on the smaller islands are not so fluent in english. The locals encourage tourists to use their language and take part in their culture while they are there. They respect that you are interested in their way of life.
