Nanuya Balavu Island Information
At the southern end of Naviti Island, in the Yasawa island group is Nanuyu Balavu Island. It is a hilly and small island but has a rather extraordinary lagoon. The lagoon is known as "Manta Ray lagoon", and is not only beautiful, blue and warm but is a resting place for the majestic and peaceful Manta Rays.

During the months of May through to October, the Manta Rays can be found here in large numbers and visitors can swim with them and enjoy the spectacle of these stunning creatures and their underwater flight. During the rest of the year, the lagoon is still beautiful and is home to colourful reef fish and corals.
There is a great backpackers resort close by, of course called the Manta Ray Resort, which has a couple of large dormitory style lodges as well as around 8 private huts for couples. The guests all share a bathroom block. There are plenty of water sports to be enjoyed here in addition to the wonderful snorkelling, and in the summer months surfers may even get to ride the reef break nearby (bring your own board).
