Located on Oahu's famous North Shore, Waimea Bay is a mecca to all the big wave surfers the world over. This stunning North Shore bay has gorgeous wide sandy beaches and crystal clear waters in every shade of blue and green, and the classic coconut palms swaying in the breeze. The large rock formation on the southern end of the beach is a popular diving platform with the locals but it can be dangerous so it's probably better to just watch.

Summer is definitely the time for swimming and sunbathing as the temperature is ideal and the waters are relatively calm making it perfect for families. The winter months bring the monster surf that is so popular with the best big-wave riders. Massive crystal cylinders up to 9m (30 feet) high come rolling in and smash down on the coral and rocks of the bay's sea floor. Unless you are an experienced big-wave rider these waves are best left to the locals or the pros.
The nearby Waimea Valley is a world away from the beach with lush verdant foliage, beautiful lagoons and refreshing waterfalls. There is also a botanical garden in the valley that is a popular tourist destination.
Waimea Bay provides a beautiful vacation spot for the whole family in summer as well as an exciting, heart-pounding adventure in winter, both in and out of the water. And if you really want to re-live the Beach Boys make sure you bring your Huarache sandals too!
