Queenstown is pretty much adventure central any time of year. A resort town on the shores of Lake Wakitipu in the Otago region of New Zealand's South Island, it is a base for skiing at the four surrounding ski fields ( Coronet Peak, The Remakables, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone), white water rafting, fly fishing, jet boat rides, bungy jumping, hiking, mountain biking and more.

The surrounding scenery is magnificent with snow capped peaks on the opposite shore of the lake and the century old steamship TSS Earnslaw can take you on a very pleasant tour around it. Being a resort town, particularly popular with younger people, it has a vibrant night life and is very well served for bars and restaurants, as is the nearby town of Arrowtown.
There is a wide range of accommodation available, from hostels to very up market resorts. It is well served by flights from within New Zealand and the east cost of Australia with many visitors opting for a 'fly drive' vacation using Queenstown as a base and it should be said that driving in the surrounding countryside is quite an experience. Queenstown also offers day trips to the spectacular Milford Sound fjord.
