Once a quiet fishing village, Hua Hin became Thailand’s first beach resort; it now caters to international tourists with wonderful accommodation, seafood restaurants, bars and sea breezes.
Hua Hin was established when King Rama II built his summer palace here in 1928, choosing the location for its excellent year-round blue skies and temperate climate. Aptly named Klai Kang Won – ‘Far From Worries’ – the palace is still used by the king much of the year as a private retreat.
Only 190km from Bangkok, a leisurely three-hour drive, Hua Hin’s long beach, calm waters and wholesome atmosphere make it a particularly popular option for both families and couples alike.
Visitors can enjoy some of the many wonderful day trips available: take a trek to a waterfall through the jungle, hire a car and drive south to the Sam Roi Yod National Park or visit the attractions of the Petchaburi Province, including the former summer residence of King Mongkut (Rama IV) and the enormous stalactites in the Khao Luang Cave.
Or stay in town, enjoying a range of water sports, the beach, a fabulous Thai massage or a round of golf at a nearby course. Then follow up in the evening with a visit to the Night Bazaar and a seafood restaurant before popping in to the local bars, pubs and discos.
