Maya Bay Information

Picture yourself on a dazzling white beach looking out onto a bay of turquoise water that is so clear you can see all the way to the sandy bottom. All around you are towering 100m (300ft) high cliffs that almost encircle the bay providing shelter from the open sea. Now add some blue skies, balmy sea-breezes, tropical vegetation and a colourful reef or two and you'll find yourself in Maya Bay on the island of Koh Phi Phi - perhaps the closest thing to paradise you'll find.

Koh Phi Phi is found off the western coast of Southern Thailand and Maya Bay sits smack in the middle and is one of the most popular locations on the island. There are several beaches in the bay but some of them disappear with the rising tide.

The main beach is about 200m (22 yds) long and can get quite crowded with tourists. The movie 'The Beach' was filmed here in 1999 and since then the beach's popularity has exploded with boats constantly dropping-off and picking-up sightseers throughout the day. To avoid the crowds it's best to catch a boat to the beach early in the morning. It will fill up but at least you'll get a couple of hours to enjoy it with relatively few people there with you.

November to April is the best time to visit Maya Bay as the seas can be very rough at other times of the year and making the trip can be very uncomfortable.
