Paradise is not lost, it was just hiding in the beaches of Thailand. Rai Le Beach in the Krabi Province to be specific will stop you dead - away from the tourist filled beaches and partying teenagers, this slice of heaven is the place to find: a photographer’s fantasy, a postcard’s stereotype and the fastest way to make anyone back home instantly jealous.

Jump on a boat from Krabi’s Chao Fah Bridge to the beach, which is about a forty-five minute ride away. The beach itself is split into east and west sections. For those looking to lie in the sun and forget their worries, head to West Hat Rai Le with its crystal waters and white shores. Quieter and with fewer activities than the more active Ao Nang also in Krabi, you’d have to search hard for something to complain about here.
East Hat Rai Le is for the more adventurous traveller looking for astounding views of mountains and the region’s other islands. Mangrove lovers will find some great forests on this side also. Be aware that the sand itself in this section can be classified as a mud flat and may not be ideal to lounge out on. You might choose to explore the area then wander over to the west beach or Hat Tham Phranang, both within easy walking distance, for some lying and unwinding.
Once you’ve had your fill of sun and beach frolicking, you might think about rock climbing. The dramatic limestone formations can be ascended from about seven hundred different paths. All gear can be hired on the island and climbs range from beginners to advanced. Open every day of the week, this is an experience not to be missed out on.
