One of our team of travel experts answers a traveller's question on places to see and travel tips for the Big Apple.
Q. What things can you recommend for me to do as a first timer visiting the Big Apple?
Trish Little from Flight Centre Downtown Auckland shares her top tips for New York holidays.
A. New York is my favourite place in the world and December is a great time to visit. The whole city sparkles with Christmas lights and decorations, including the massive Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre.
Purchasing a New York City pass before you go is a good idea, as it will give you access to six of the top attractions including the Empire State Building, the Museum of Modern Art and a Statue of Liberty river cruise.
You can also purchase a hop-on hop-off pass, which with routes all over New York is a great way to see the sights.
For spectacular city views, the Top of the Rock Observation Deck is the place to go. There are three levels of sweeping views of the entire city, all from the top of the Rockefeller Centre.
Taking in a Broadway show is also something I'd highly recommend, although the main shows sell out fast so booking tickets early is a good idea.
When you're feeling in need of a break from the city's hectic pace, you'll find a relaxing haven in Central Park. There are great views from Belvedere Castle or if you're visiting over winter you can put some skates on and head to the ice rink.
