It's a mecca for sightseeing and shopping, but finding somewhere to stay on Melbourne holidays can be a bit of a mission. So Anna Whitehouse from Flight Centre shares her favourite places to rest a weary head.
Citadines on Bourke Melbourne is my favourite in terms of location to shopping, bars and restaurants. It has some of the largest rooms in Melbourne, very spacious and modern plus double-glazed, so very quiet with great views of the city. There is a heated pool, gym and a restaurant downstairs that offers buffet breakfast and at night serves Japanese-inspired cuisine.
Mantra on the Park is great for families who don’t want to be right in the centre of Melbourne but still want the feel of the city. It offers great views of the city on one side and views over the Calton Gardens on the other. It's located just 10 minutes walk from Bourke Street Mall and is also close the Museum. The hotel's large apartments all have full laundry facilities and kitchens, which when combined with the indoor heated rooftop swimming pool makes a perfect option for families.
The Crown Promenade caters for all type of travelers and is situated right in Southbank with many restaurants and bars at your fingertips. The hotel has a very relaxed atmosphere, and rooms that are nice and classy. This is a worthwhile consideration for travellers on a budget but who want to treat themselves a little.
The Crown Metropol is the largest hotel in Australia and which features the most amazing bathrooms. The open plan rooms are spacious with floor to ceiling windows revealing exceptional views. The leisure facilities are very good, with an impressive indoor infinity pool and spa complex.
Citigate Melbourne is my favourite hotel in the city. It has a fantastic location right in the centre of the city, opposite Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. The modern and generous sized rooms are complimented by free wi-fi and a well-appointed gym.
