Taking in slopes, cities and spirits, Charlie McIntosh from Flight Centre Auckland savours the scenery and spectacle of a Canada holiday in Vancouver.

Vancouver is a dynamic, multicultural city set amongst gorgeous mountain ranges and sparkling ocean waters of south-western Canada.

Take a journey through one of the beautiful rainforests or stay closer to the city and enjoy the excitement of Vancouver’s shopping, gourmet meals, theatre, outdoor attractions and exciting sporting events.

Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain are stunning on a sunny Canada summer or bracing winter day. Capilano is a great place to take the family, with an interesting history and heaps of fun things for the kids to do.

Grouse Mountain is the place to go if you want a chance to see bears and wolves. It also has a high standard of food and beverage outlets; there was even a wedding happening when we visited.

A ferry trip to Victoria Island to visit the Butchart Gardens is well worth a half day. There is good food and beverage on board the ferry, and we were lucky to see killer whales (orcas) on the way back.

Butchart Gardens are very beautiful - even non gardeners would enjoy it. You can even take a float plane over and collect a picnic basket there to enjoy for lunch.

For those not of a nervous disposition, an evening ghost walk is a fun 2 hour tour with entertaining guides telling tall stories.

If you enjoy the ghost walk and want even more spookiness, try checking in to the Fairmont Empress hotel, complete with original décor dating from the 1910’s and quite a few ghost stories of their own.
