Monte Carlo is located on the coast of Monaco, the world's second smallest independent state. The city is not the principality's capital (the city of Monaco is the capital) but an administrative area where much of the state's business and recreation is based. The city itself is incredibly wealthy with luxurious resorts, the famous Monte Carlo Casino and the Formula One race Circuit de Monaco.

Monte Carlo cruises disembark at the cruise terminal at Port Hercule in Monte Carlo.

Sights to See

Once you reach Port Hercule, make your way on foot to the rocky area of Monaco-Ville where you can view historic sites such as the Monaco Cathedral and the Palais du Prince, where the royal family resides. In Manaco-Ville you can also visit the Oceanographic Museum, home to one of the best aquariums in the world. For a beautiful photo opportunity head to the Saint Martin Gardens or the Jardin Japonais, a beautiful Japanese Zen garden designed for Princess Grace. On return to the port be sure to take time to spot the luxurious super yachts docked in the harbour. Want to see it all? Take a tour of Monte Carlo...

What's for Lunch

There are plenty of scenic cafés to choose from along the harbour. After lunch, sweet tooths should make it their mission to visit one of Monaco's exquisite bakeries and try a delicious fried dumpling called Barbagiuan.

If you see only one thing...

The Monte Carlo Casino is the city's most famous building and one of the main reasons why the rich dock their private yachts in the harbour.

Local speak

The state's official language is French. Don't be afraid to ask how much something costs by saying, Combien ça coûte?

You don't need to break the bank in order to bring home a designer piece of clothing. Browse the second hand stores on rue Grimaldi where you'll find pre-loved items by Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent.
