Looking for something to do over the weekend? How about exploring three countries on a luxury boutique hotel at sea! Before the journey departs from Venice, let yourself be taken in by the city’s many charms as you stroll along the cobblestone streets, overarching bridges, and world-famous canals

Wake up the next morning in Croatia’s third largest city, Rijeka, where stunning architecture, cultural and historic monuments, excellent museums, and delicious seafood await. (Be sure to stop in at the Art Nouveau fish market hall for mussels and oysters right from the bay.) Then it’s on to Koper, Slovenia’s largest coastal town and the gateway to an array of intercontinental adventures. Trek through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Skocjan Caves, tour the capital city of Ljubljana (truly one of Europe’s secret gems), or explore the charms of Koper itself, especially in the Old Town. Your voyage concludes back in Venice. Consider staying an extra night or two before you head home, and leave time to visit and shop the exquisite Murano glass factory, or sip a Bellini at Harry’s bar—you can’t get more authentic than the place this classic cocktail was invented. Come to think of it, you may never want to leave.

Venice

One of the world's most beautiful cities also happens to be one of its most unusual. Venice is actually made up of over 120 islands in the Adriatic Sea. Because the city is connected by canals instead of streets, a good way to see Venice is on a romantic gondola ride. The epicenter of the city is St. Mark's Square, where you'll find the 900-year-old Basilica of St. Mark

Opatija

In 1844 Opatija began its life as a resort; with stunning coastal views and a mild climate it quickly drew an aristocratic clientele. The Grand Hotel Kvarner opened its doors, noblemen began to build spacious villas, and Opatija became the fashionable seaside resort of the Austro- Hungarian Empire. Here elegant ladies strolled the lush gardens and parks in the shade of parasols, and dancers swayed to the tempo of the waltz. On a terrace overlooking the blue bay, kings and emperors negotiated alliances and hatched plots. The grand residences of the wealthy are now hotels that still exude the air of elegance of a bygone age.

Koper

A key commercial center with a Venetian past, Koper is Slovenia's only deep-water port. Stroll the narrow streets of the "old city" to the Praetorian Palace, which could easily be the setting of a Renaissance drama, sip a coffee in the square, then visit the Cathedral of St. Nazarius, the largest in Slovenia.

Azamara Club Cruises

Azamara Club Cruises is a deluxe cruise experience for discerning travellers who long to reach out-of-the-ordinary destinations and indulge in amenities and service unparalleled on the high seas. The unique offerings of Azamara Club Cruises are beyond compare: complimentary 24 hour room service is provided in every stateroom; shore excursions are designed to let guests become part of the fabric of life in each destination, instead of merely being an observer; the enrichment programs offer everything from culinary to photographic explorations; two specialty restaurants provide the finest cuisine at sea; live entertainment can be enjoyed nightly; and the level of service offered is unmatched. Azamara Club Cruises consist of two intimate ships, Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest. Each can carry 694 fortunate guests and because they are smaller and sleeker than larger cruise ships, they can sail to ports that others simply cannot reach. In addition to offering a more personalised experience, the ships have recently undergone a $17.5 million revitalisation with new European bedding and soft furnishings, flat screen televisions, new verandah decking and furniture, and wireless internet service in all staterooms and public areas. Plus, 93% of the staterooms offer ocean views and 68% have a private veranda. You may be wondering where the name Azamara comes from. Azamara is a coined term derived from the Romance languages. This includes the more obvious links to blue (az) and the sea (mar). The name was also inspired by a star, Acamar. In Classical times, the star Acamar was the most southerly bright star that could be seen from the latitude of Greece. Azamara Club Cruises can be seen as a star on the blue sea.
