Why go?

The spectacular ultra-modern Shanghai International Circuit offers one of the most intense and exciting F1 experiences.  With an overall length of 5,451 km featuring 7 left hand and 7 right hand turns the circuit boasts some very fast straights and technically challenging corners.  It is one of the most expensive Formula One circuit facilities, costing $240 million and was designed to maximize spectator viewing from the grandstand seats.

The Chinese Grand Prix is one of the best value for money grand prix on the calendar, and it is amazing how much of the track you can see.. The Shanghai International Circuit is easy to get to, has outstanding facilities and most grandstands boast views of several turns over the catch fence.

Shanghai is a vibrant metropolis with an infectious energy and was once known as the ‘Paris of the East’. This fascinating city fuses ancient traditions with a fascinating colonial history and then mixes it with cosmopolitan hedonism.

For a taste of ‘old Shanghai’, stroll the riverfront walkway along the Bund and admire the colonial buildings that once housed foreign banks and trading houses. Return at night at gaze across the river at the spectacular skyline of futuristic Pudong, the skyscraper-laden financial and commercial district.

The influence of Western powers during the turn of the 20th century has left the city with various ‘concessions’ (or districts) to explore.  Meander through the leafy French concession, a fashionable area for over a century with fine old villas, renovated boutiques, art galleries, bars and cafes.

Head for a shopping mall mecca to indulge in the latest selections of high end luxury goods, dig around for antiques, curios and communist China memorabilia in an antique store or bargain for a fair deal in one of the many traditional outdoor markets dotted throughout the city.  Or if you are looking for a rural experience, getaway to one of the nearby traditional water towns with their charming appeal.

Shanghai is a city that comes alive at night. Relive the decadent nightlife of the 1930’s in one of the many famous grand bars on the Bund, including the iconic Jazz Bar at the legendary Fairmont Peace Hotel, an art deco masterpiece where old glamour dazzles. Party til dawn at international night clubs featuring slick décor and hip beats or sip cocktails on a rooftop terrace with panoramic river views. Opt for entertainment with a more cultural flavor, with cinemas showing foreign and Chinese films, and theatres featuring opera, dance, drama, acrobatics and puppets.

Don’t miss experiencing a fantastic race and a futuristic city!
