Why go?

The US Open is one of the highlights in the golfing calendar.  The event is the championship of the United States Golf Association and has a very strict exempt qualifiers list – made up of recent major champions, professionals currently ranked high in the world rankings or on the previous year's money lists around the world, and leading amateurs from recent USGA events .  About half of the 156 strong field still enters the tournament through two rounds of open qualification events, mostly held in the US but also in Europe and Japan.

The 2016 US Open is returning to the majestic Oakmont Country Club for the ninth time.  Oakmont is one of the grand old courses of America and has hosted more championships than any other golf course in the country.

The course opened in 1903 and has consistently ranked as one of the best tests of championship golf in the United States.  Oakmont’s lush fairways are tightly framed by punishing rough, and in 2007 the USGA confirmed a longstanding rumour - for the US Open, Oakmont's greens have to be slowed down from the speeds members play them.    Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus are just some of the greats who have tasted victory there.

This truly prestigious major is a must for any tournament fan.
