Vietnam Destination Guide

Vietnam holidays are growing increasingly popular with travellers of all persuasions as the country opens its arms and coffers to visitors from all over the world. Located on the South China Sea and bordered by China, Laos and Cambodia, this ancient country boasts beautiful scenery and some of Southeast Asia's most renowned hospitality.

Vietnam tours are a showcase for endless rice paddies, beautiful beaches, lush jungles and striking coastlines punctuated by incredible rock formations. Vietnam boasts a long and rich history, punctuated by bouts of occupation and pitched battles for independence. The First Indochina War battle site at Dien Bien Phu, the ancient city of Hue – which is divided by the river Huong – and the seaport of Hoi An are all popular attractions for visitors. The city of Hanoi houses an 18-kilometre spiral fortress, Co Loa Citadel, and the mausoleum of Vietnam's famous former leader, Ho Chi Minh.

Flights to Vietnam are both frequent and relatively inexpensive, with most of the surrounding Asian countries linked by direct flights. It is possible to trek around the country, using the rail network for slow contemplation of the beautiful scenery as you connect to different cities.

Hit the surf

A popular surfing destination, Vietnam's beaches are mostly unspoiled, clean and boast pleasant warm waters. The Mekong Delta is a tropical forest with vast plains and small villages, which are at times only accessible by the waterways that criss-cross each other.

A trek from north to south is a visual feast. Stop halfway along the coast of Vietnam to discover the enchanting city of Hoi An. Honouring a traditional ceremony on the full moon each month, the coastal port comes alive with coloured silk lanterns hanging through the streets. All cars are banned for the duration of the festival to allow the provision of uninterrupted traditional food, and entertainment and games in the streets. Order a bespoke piece of clothing in the city, an excellent personalised souvenir to take home from your trip to one of Asia's most exciting countries.
