Siem Reap is the gateway to the world-famous Angkor Archaeological Park, a World Heritage-listed site that's one of the creations, man-made or otherwise, listed as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Thousands of visitors venture to the symbolic temples every year, eager to learn about the history surrounding the Khmer Empire. Although Angkor is undoubtedly Siem Reap’s main attraction, there is much more to discover within the city and its surrounds, and in order to gain the best insight, you can join a tour for a truly unforgettable experience.

Angkor temples

There are a variety of touring options to suit all styles when visiting the ancient Angkor Archaeological Park. The most popular option is to join a private guided walking tour through the ruins, admiring the intricate carvings and symbolic relics while learning about the fascinating history behind the temples including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and The Bayon.

You can also combine other Siem Reap tours with trips to the Angkor temples. A group cycling or quad biking tour can take you on an adventure through the countryside passing emerald rice fields and quaint villages, before arriving at the Angkor temples, which can be explored by foot.

Cultural experiences

The city centre of Siem Reap also has a lot to offer, from lively Pub Street brimming with restaurants and bars, to the outdoor Angkor Night Market. Explore the colourful markets, ensuring you stop for a traditional ‘fish pedicure’, or join a street food tour and sample traditional Khmer dishes and, if you dare, some more unusual insect delicacies.

If you want to explore outside the city, you can join a boat tour along Tonle Sap that travels through the floating village of Chong Khneas, where you will be informed about the locals' way of life. If you’re willing to venture further out, you can visit Prek Toal or the Kompong Phluk Flooded Forest.
