From indulgent massages to exciting water activities, Desiree Toi from Flight Centre Auckland shares her top Noumea resorts picks.

La Promenade

If you're looking for fresh air and lovely views over Anse Vata Bay from a private balcony, this resort is a great option. Families on their Noumea holidays looking to save some money by self-catering will love the kitchenettes or full kitchen in every room.

There are some nice onsite facilities including a restaurant and a couple of gyms (including one which is for women only), offering zumba and dance classes, with trainers to assist in how to use the equipment.

Chateau Royal Beach Resort & Spa

Rebuilt in 2011, this resort is a 10 minute walk from Anse Vata Bay.  The great restaurant and bar boasts greats views over the bay for a quiet drink and to watch the sunset. There is also a lovely al a carte restaurant with lovely food options including a cheaper menu which is more deli-style food.

Neighbouring this restaurant on the ground level is a bar, open every night except Sunday and Monday. There are entertainment or shows every night except Monday, where there will be theme nights such as rock 'n' roll or salsa nights.

There's also a well-equipped gym and amazing spa complex onsite, from where you can get a massage (including couples massage), manicure, pedicures, hydro therapy and more.

Le Meridien

This is one of the oldest resorts in Noumea, where the original structure has remained much as it is for over 18 years, but is still a lovely luxury product for travellers seeking a large resort to relax in. It's just a 10 minute walk to Anse Vata Bay.

Le Meridien has the largest lagoon-style pool in all Noumea, by the poolside of which they have an outdoor al a carte dining area. There's plenty of other leisure facilities besides including 4 restaurants, a games room, fitness centre, sauna and aquatic equipment (eg. kayak, canoe, paddle boards, snorkelling sets) available.WiFi is available and free of charge to guests.

L’Escapade Island Resort

This island is a 30 minute boat ride from the mainland, where the resort includes 25 over-water bungalows. There's a lovely outlook from the island, although the beach itself isn't as good as some of the others. There are clear waters for swimming and snorkelling with a good array of tropical fish, although I'd recommend reef shoes for the coral just off the shore line.

The activities hut provides snorkelling equipment, kayaks and scuba diving gear, so there's a good selection for the water enthusiast! You can kite surf on the opposite side of the island, which is a good spot for it as there's plenty of wind and lots of waves.

The food at the resort is great, with a good selection from the buffet lunch menu including freshly cooked bbq meats and a variety of local cuisine. For those couples who get carried away with the romance of Tahiti, there is also a chapel onsite!
