Archipelagos of more than 300 islands and many more islets together form Fiji. The islands are a treasure trove of natural assets with perfect beaches, often rugged interiors and surrounded by blue waters and reefs. Fiji is a delight to the senses, where warm sun and pleasant breezes caress you, amazing scenery to amaze you, the sounds of gentle waves lapping in your ears and the smell of coconuts, the sea and food from a dozen lands your constant companion. In Fiji you can dive some of the worlds best reefs, or snorkel straight out the front of your room, hike through jungles to discover waterfalls and views to die for or simple relax under a coconut tree - this is what a holiday should be.
The largest island and main administrative centre is Viti Levu and it is here you will find most of the population as well as the storehouse of Fiji's culture and history.
Viti Levu’s stunning Coral Coast along it's southern flank is a magnificent stretch of coastline with breathtaking ocean views. Along the way superbly appointed resorts are dotted here and there with their own patch of reef, beach and water.
Just off the western coast Denauru is another favourite of visitors and has several world class resorts. It is also the main hub for boat traffic to the Mamanuca Island chain, as well as the place to go for day trips around the islands.
The Mamanuca Group of Islands are popular for the perfect beaches, surf and natural beauty. The main island in the group is Malolo Lailai which has several resorts but many of the other islands in the group also have accommodation and resorts, including Beachcomber Island and Treasure Island.
Further north are the Yassawa Islands, regarded by many as Fiji’s most beautiful islands. These islands are far less developed than their more southern counterparts and are further and more difficult to reach than the Mamanucas. They have a different appeal with long deserted beaches and rugged mountainous interiors covered in thick forests. The accommodation options in the Yasawas is more rustic and there are several very basic backpacker facilities. In the northern part of the group is Taveuni Island, which is blessed with unspoiled jungles, plunging waterfalls as well as some of the world’s best coral reefs. Vatulele island in the south is another stunner with a gorgeous lagoon and perfect white beaches as well as accommodation where the emphasis is on relaxation.
Added to these wonderful destinations around the nation is the wonderful mixture of cultures and influences which overlay the natural beauty with a diverse blanket of culture, festivals music and food.
