Just over the hill, at the south-eastern end of Golden Bay, lies Takaka, a small town that serves as the local centre for the Bay. In Takaka you can find everything you might need for a day outdoors, with dozens of beaches within easy distance of the town.
There is also several unique natural attractions nearby, such as the Te Waikoropupū Springs, the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand and home to some of the clearest water in the world.
