Snorkel through Vibrant Coral Reefs
It should be no surprise that Fiji has exquisite coral reefs, and a whole other marine world that lies just below the waves. Almost every resort offers snorkelling equipment so that you can dive beneath and see these gorgeous creatures in their natural habitats.
If you visit a destination like the Malamala Beach Club (which can be accessed via a preorganised bus from most Coral Coast resorts), then this is also included. Collect your snorkelling gear from the shed by the jetty, and you’ll be able to float out into the shallows to see the many colourful and striking fish.
Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park
Hike through Fiji’s first national park, which is home to unique landscapes and archaeological sites. Roughly 3km to the west of Sigatoka, along the Coral coast, they are a unique geological masterpiece sculpted over time by natural forces. Persistent river erosion, strong winds and powerful ocean currents have shaped these dunes into a remarkable 360-acre feature.
Sigatoka River Safari
Operating from Sigatoka and travelling up the Sigatoka River, this approximately half-day river safari will take you on a tour of interior regions through local villages. Experience authentic Fijian cultural practices including Kava ceremonies and traditional welcoming ceremonies. You’ll get to some high speeds in the custom-built safari jet boat as you cruise your way up the river. A perfect experience for those seeking a taste of authentic Fijian culture.
Surf at Natadola Beach
Often described as Viti Levu’s Best Beach, the soft white sand and turquoise waters of Natadola Beach make you feel instantly calm and relaxed. If you’re looking to learn how to surf, then you can find surf lessons along this beach, or if you’re staying at the International Golf Resort & Spa, then you’ll be situated right next to the beach.
Natadola Beach is also a great spot to play in the sand and shallows with young family members or to go snorkelling and see what lies beneath the tide.
Kula WILD Adventure Park
With wide forest walks, marine displays and exhilarating water slides, the Kula WILD Adventure Park is Fiji’s premium family fun park. Open every day of the year, you can have a fun day out for the whole family. Jump on the 100m long Splash Mountain Jungle Water Slide as it zips and winds through trees, across a river and ends with a mighty splash!
Hand feed sea turtles, participate in animal interactions, or harness up on the Kula Krazy Canopy Flier to zip through 200m of forest canopy. The only zip line in the Coral Coast, it’ll have your heart racing from start to finish as you get a high level view of Fiji!
Naiehe Cave Tour
Fiji’s largest subterranean cave system, the Naiehe Cave is a historic landmark in the Coral Coast. Once the home and fortress of the ‘Sautabu’ people during Fiji's tribal warfare days, it was successfully defended against enemies for centuries. Meaning ‘a place to get lost’ it is believed by the people that whomever wishes to enter the cave must seek the permission of the Priest (Bete) as without their consultation, you’ll immediately get lost upon entering the cave.
Local tours will guide you through this gruesomely fascinating piece of Fijian history.
Golf at Natadola Bay Championship Course
Blending world-class golf architecture with dramatic landscapes, the Natadola Bay course will quickly become one of your favourites. Home to the Fiji International Golf tour, you too can tee off with the sparkling backdrop of coral reefs and the Pacific Ocean framing every shot. With every booking including a motorised golf cart and your scorecard and tees, this is an unforgettable way to pass a warm, sunny day in Fiji. Bookings are essential, so make sure to plan this ahead of time.
Discover Hidden Waterfalls
Fiji is covered with many amazing waterfalls and aquatic experiences, but if you’re after something a little extra special, then tracking down a hidden waterfall is the way to go. One of the best, is the Biausevu Waterfall - also known as the Savu Na Mate Laya Falls. Getting to it is best by a guided tour, with a local village visit in the Biausevu Village - including a traditional Kava ceremony.
From the village, it’s a (mostly) flat 30-45 minute hike through the rainforest, where you’ll discover a private natural swimming hole that is perfect for a dip after your hike.
Visit Artisans at Lawai Pottery Village
This local pottery village is near to Natadola Beach and is an ideal way to learn a new craft whilst contributing to the local community. All purchases go directly to the people in the community and are reinvested. Take part in a traditional kava ceremony, watch local dances and performances, and learn how to work with clay that you’ll transform into pottery. The artisans in the village have been working with clay for generations and create incredible pottery pieces that you can buy.
Reef Walk at the Sunset Strip
Situated opposite The Crow’s Nest Resort is a gorgeous local for reef walking at low tide. The Sunset Strip is, as you might have guessed, named for the fact that it experiences magical and striking sunsets that set the beach ablaze in hues of orange, red and yellow near the end of the day.
During low tide you’ll be able to see gorgeous coral flats and observe natural marine life going about their day. You’ll want to have some sturdy water shoes that are slip and cut resistant for this activity as things can get slippery and cutting your foot on coral is not fun.
Horseback Riding
Offered at numerous beaches and locations along the Coral Coast, you can get an unforgettable perspective of Fiji as you view it from horseback. Whether you’re going on a guided tour through a beach, rainforest or mountain trail, you’ll experience breathtaking views, picturesque oceanfront trails and more.
Some resorts also offer this as an experience at your resort, where local experts will take you on a tour of some hidden gems. Although domesticated, it is imperative that you respect the horse and follow the guide’s instructions to ensure a safe experience for all.
Experience a Cultural Performance
Offered at most resorts, and in some villages, cultural performances are the biggest drawcard of Fiji. With a rich and storied history behind every performance, you can take part in everything from traditional kava ceremonies to fire dancing and feasts.
Check in with the reception at your resort to find out what’s on their roster, or speak to your Flight Centre Travel Expert to bake a few options into your itinerary. Organised ahead of time, it’s simple to get some transport that can take you to these experiences and bring you safely back home at the end of the day.
Try your hand at local crafts or glassblowing
Visit a destination like Hot Glass Fiji on the Sunset Strip in Korotogo. You can watch artisans working with molten glass to create exquisite artworks, or you can get involved and have a go! You’ll get to craft your very own unique glass piece which you can take home as a special memento of your trip to Fiji.
The experience at Hot Glass Fiji lasts about 30 minutes per person, and you’ll be guided through making a vase, tumbler, bowl or dish in the colours of your choice. Start off with a studio briefing and presentation and then you’ll be ready to create your masterpiece. It takes a day or two for it to be annealed, and so you can pick it up the following day or have it couriered directly to your resort.
Discover the amazing food scene
No good holiday is complete without some delicious food and, fortunately, Fiji has many delicious eateries and food destinations available. Visit the Outrigger Resort & Spa where the Sundowner Bar & Grill offers amazing surf and turf style dishes, with everything from mouthwatering Tiger Prawns through to perfectly cooked Eye Fillet!
The Fish Bar offers casual elegance from their bayside bar and restaurant, serving up freshly caught seafood dishes. From salt & pepper calamari to tropical ahi tuna, you’ll dine excellently on delicious local flavours from expert chefs.
Or, visit the Marriott Resort, where The Lagoon House & Bar serves up Mediterranean fare and specialty drinks, all with sunset views over Momi Bay and the Coral Coast. Think saffron chorizo steamed mussels, pan seared lamb cutlets, and red snapper with olive tomato tapenade.
Jump on Ecotrax to explore the Coral Coast
Ride the rails at Ecotrax which will take you for miles along deserted beaches and untouched tracts of the Coral Coast. These railbound bicycles will weave you through bush, rock cuttings, villages and fields - with magical scenery around every corner. This is the only experience of its kind in Fiji and is well worth including on your itinerary.
You can pedal your own way along the tracks, or simply relax and use the built-in accelerator to cruise along. Stop and stretch your legs, swim and snorkel in the azure waters or grab a refreshing drink from their remote beach location. Bookings are essential as this popular attraction fills up fast.
