What to pack
A Fiji getaway means understated comforts, with minimal formalwear. Pack light clothing, swimwear and the occasional nice outfit for a romantic evening.
- A hat, swimsuit, jandals, small day-bag (to hold phone, book, wallet, sunscreen, & water bottle) and sunglasses are a must. You’ll be spending a lot of time in them.
- Light clothes - think t-shirts, shorts, underwear, a few pairs of socks.
- A pair of sneakers (for hikes or going to the gym at your resort) and your birkenstocks or jandals.
- Your chargers, devices and headphones. Fiji uses Type I plugs - the same as New Zealand - so no need to worry about plug converters if travelling from Aotearoa.
- Sunblock, sunglasses and a sunhat.
- A light jacket or something to resist wind and rain, as the nights or bus trips can sometimes get a bit chilly.
- Tickets to different experiences. You should look at a few options ahead of time and see what is local to your resort of choice. A destination like Malamala Beach Club books out in advance but is well worth booking. Experience an entire day at this private beach club where you can float in the pool, eat incredible food and indulge with delicious drinks. What’s not to love?
- Some cash - roughly NZD30/day should be sufficient. The resorts will almost always have Eftpos facilities available meaning you can pay for things by card. You can also get no international transaction fees if you use your Flight Centre Mastercard while in Fiji.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort
Quiet comfort meets modern luxury at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the shimmering Coral Coast. Situated roughly 60 to 90 minutes away from Nadi International Airport, the Outrigger is a welcome sight at the end of your journey. Step into the lobby that is airy, spacious and refreshing (with the welcome cocktail on arrival), and venture out to the balcony to look out over the resort and glistening ocean beyond. The lobby is complete with numerous shops and a small cafe.
From there, it’s a short journey to your room. If you’re staying in one of the Oceanview rooms, then you’ll be whisked down the hill in a golfcart, with your bags in the back. Stepping into your room, you’ll be greeted by the refreshing air conditioning (which is so welcome, especially in the hotter months). The Oceanview Room has a private balcony, a comfortable Queen-sized bed and evening turn down service complete with complimentary champagne and canapes.
By day you can wander up to the Adults Only pool, complete with swim up bar and elegant recliners. Top up your tan, relax in the pool, and finish off your book with a Pina Colada in hand. We recommend getting to the pool before 10.30am where you can. It’s popular with adults and tends to get busiest around lunchtime, with a drop off in the early afternoon.
Dine at various restaurants - the Sundowner Bar & Grill (bookings mandatory) is phenomenal and boasts world-class cuisine. A perfect date night spot. Alternatively, you can grab an easy dressed down dinner at Baravi Restaurant, surrounded by the pool - or even get a cheeky room service while you kick back and watch some trash tv.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort
Situated on Malolo Island, the Likuliku Lagoon Resort is secluded, intimate and luxurious. In fact, if you’re celebrating a special occasion, have an important question to ask, or just want to deepen your bond with your loved one, then this is the resort for you. From the water, as you’re arriving on the boat, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was an ancient village. Designed in a traditional style, it is a monument to the Fijian people and pays homage to the integrity of Fijian cultural values.
This wilderness island resort has authentic over water bures, and is situated in a natural ocean lagoon surrounded by a protected marine sanctuary. The resort has just 10 over water bures, which are private, exclusive and beautiful. Lounge lazily on your private deck or in your separate, private bathing pavilion with Lagoon views. Sleep comfortably in your king-sized bed as the sound of the lagoon lulls you to sleep, and wake to the sun blazing across the ocean outside your front door.
By day head over to the gymnasium, which is fully equipped with state of the art equipment (and open 24/7), head out on the water to go fishing with the locals, or tackle the tide as you go surfing the Malolo Barrier Reef. The resort also offers Yoga throughout the week, along with walking and hiking trails.
Your bure is complete with complimentary daily-delivered canapes, ice and freshly baked cookies from the Chef, as well as daily housekeeping, an evening-turn down and amenities like a smart TV and a bluetooth sound bar. Oh, they also have Pure Fiji products in the bure bathrooms. IYKYK.

Totoriki Island Resort
This adult-only resort is a self described ‘relaxed luxury’ island resort. Comprising just 36 villas and bures with a maximum capacity of 72 guests, it’s intimate and private with fabulous dining and quality accommodation.
A beachfront bure is the perfect spot for you and your significant other to have a romantic getaway. You’ll sleep comfortably through the night in your air conditioned room, with ceiling fan, and awaken to throw open your doors and be greeted by the sandy shores mere steps away. Take breakfast while relaxing on your sun lounges, take a mid morning (or afternoon) nap in your own hammock, or throw down a towel and lie in the sand to soak up some sun.
Totoriki Island Resort is also well known for its catalogue of things to do, and bespoke experiences. Take on a 2 hour private snorkel safari through the exquisite, untouched marine sanctuaries that make up the Bligh lagoon. This critical nesting place for turtles and birds is stunning above and below the water. If snorkelling isn’t to your liking, then take on an above-the-waves excursion! Visit the magical Cloud9 Floating Bar for an unforgettable day floating in the middle of the sea or take part in the Yanuya Island Village Trip to explore local wares and delights.
If you’ve got a question to pop, then the Champagne Island beach picnic is an intimate and magical treat that will set the mood. It costs around FJD850 (Roughly NZD$650) but is well worth the cost for the memories that come with it.

Royal Davui Island Resort
How does a private villa with your own plunge pool, on a secluded island, sound? If that made your heart leap, then you’re in fine company, because the Royal Davui Island resort is an adults-only resort that takes things up a notch. A short, scenic, 30-minute flight from Nadi Airport, you’ll touch down in a destination that is as picturesque as it is welcoming.
With a limited capacity of just 32 guests, romance is effortless at the Royal Davui Island resort, and you’ll get the rare privilege of feeling like you have this private island almost entirely to yourself. Imagine snoozing in your air-conditioned sleeping pavilion that opens up to an expansive deck overlooking the lagoon. Leap from your bed out the doors and into your private plunge pool, or soak up the sun in your hammock.
Wake up to champagne breakfasts and barefoot dining or explore further with a reef adventure or a sunset cruise. You’ll be truly treated with the personalised service on hand: there to guide you every step of the way (or not! It’s entirely up to you). Visit the Davui Spa for an intimate couples massage, or explore with authentic Fijian Cultural activities like a traditional welcome ceremony.
If you want to create a truly memorable holiday, then take a short 7-minute boat ride to the Sand Cay Beach islet, where you’ll have a remote picnic for two. Complete with sunshade, picnic mats, a picnic (of course) and beach seats, this is a truly unforgettable experience. You’ll be left for a few hours on this private islet in the middle of the ocean with undisturbed views of azure waters in every direction.

If you take things up a level with a suite or a bure, then you’ll be treated to uninterrupted ocean views and beach access, allowing you to press pause on your day-to-day and embrace the paradise that lies all around.
Explore across land and sea from the resort. Setup on the beach with beanbags and bubbles, dive beneath the surface with a Mana Sand Bar snorkelling you, or even head out to the Desperations to surf the Fijian waves. If you’re looking to save a few dollars, then options such as Windsurfing, a Dolphin Safari Tour and a Village Tour are included in the price of your accommodation.
The focus on wellness extends into the spa, where you can choose from a huge array of pamper packages. Start with a body massage, return for a hand and foot massage daily, or get a facial to make your skin glow! If that’s not enough, then indulge in a full-day spa package.
