Flights to Townsville land in the home of the fervently-supported North Queensland Cowboys rugby league team and this coastal city gets more than 320 days of sunshine per year.
Magnetic Island is just a 25- to 45-minute launch from Townsville and is popular with visitors. If you want to get over the water rather than on it, you can arrange solo and tandem skydiving locally. The Museum of Tropical Queensland's main attraction is an underwater relic: artefacts from HMS Pandora, the British ship sent to pursue the HMS Bounty.
If you want to water ski, wakeboard or fish in town, you can do so at a string of spots within the Riverway development. Take advantage of all that sunshine with a picnic in one of the many well-appointed local parks too.
