Frequently asked questions

If you’re planning on sticking to the city district, you definitely do not need a car to get around Boston. In fact, having one can be somewhat of a hindrance with one-way streets and limited parking. Public transport, known as the T, can take you where you need to go and if you book a central hotel, you can also get around on foot. That said, if you’re planning to head out of the city, your own wheels may come in handy.

If you’re into history, the Freedom Trail encompasses 16 historically significant sites, while the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum offers a glimpse at the events leading up to the American revolution. The downtown harbour precinct is dotted with mouth-watering restaurants and bars while culture seekers will be spoilt for choice with museums and the Theatre District.

Known for steamy summers and wild winters, the best time to visit Boston is generally considered to be from June to October. The pleasant and mild autumn weather is perfect for exploring and there are plenty of events happening around the city during the peak tourist season.

Wander around the Public Garden and spy the Make Way for Ducklings statues (if you know, you know), if your trip coincides with the baseball season you can head to Fenway Park for a Red Sox game, catch a show in the Theatre District, take a guided tour of the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, meander around Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, take a river cruise, sip and snack your way along the wharves, get up close with creatures of the deep at The New England Aquarium, learn about history on the Freedom Trail and eat Italian in the North End. After all of that, you’ll need a nap.

Downtown is an ideal base for first-time visitors to Boston as it boasts the highest concentration of historic sites, hotels, restaurants and the wharves on Boston Harbour.

Boston is known for its somewhat unpredictable weather patterns so it’s best to be prepared with comfortable walking shoes, a jacket and a raincoat. If you’re travelling in summer, opt for light, breathable layers.

Where to go in Boston depends on what brings you to Boston in the first place. The great thing about this city in particular is that no matter what your interests are, you are guaranteed to find an activity or attraction to suit, whether you’re here for the history, wining and dining, shopping, or a little bit of everything.
