Bogota brings together the best parts of Colombia into one delightfully walkable city, so be sure to pack some comfortable shoes! The weather can be a fickle beast, so throw in a poncho or rain jacket as well as your appetite for adventure. The rest of your packing list will depend on the time of year you plan to travel as well as your proposed itinerary.
Begin your Colombian adventure by stepping back in time and exploring the historic district of La Candelaria, which is lined with colorful buildings and cobblestone streets. For art enthusiasts, the Botero Museum is a must-visit, housing an incredible collection of works by renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. If you're keen to get amongst nature, head to Monserrate and soak in breathtaking views of the city. Of course, no trip to Bogota is complete without visiting the bustling local markets like Paloquemao, where you can sample exotic fruits, taste mouth-watering street food and hunt for souvenirs.

The best time to experience the enchanting Colombian capital is during the dry season, which typically falls between December and March. This is when the city really comes alive with festivals, cultural events and outdoor concerts. If you're a fan of cooler weather (and smaller crowds), the months of April to June and September to November are great options, just be sure to pack a light jacket as Bogota's high altitude can bring a chill, even on sunny days!
Gaze at street art, wander the cobblestoned streets, hike to the top of Monserrate Mountain (or, you know, catch the tram), find Bogota’s best Arroz con pollo, meander markets, museum hop – the list goes on and on! One thing’s for certain, you won’t be bored in Bogota.
